Local volunteer receives national award
Vancouver BC – Tuesday April 12, 2005
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF), Canada’s leading organization dedicated to the success of young entrepreneurs, is pleased to announce the national Outstanding Volunteer award recipient – Jim Smyth, an active member of the loan review committee, from Vancouver.
A member of the Vancouver Loan Review Committee for CYBF since 2000, Jim has been the chairman for the past four years and has reviewed many applications during this time. He has also acted as mentor for several CYBF loan recipients in the Vancouver area. Jim also draws on experience as a counselor with Innovation BC, assisting new product developers in the business commercialization process. In addition, he has 20 years of general and financial management experience gained with manufacturing companies in Canada and the UK. Manufactured products ranged from dog food to sundae toppings, from clay bricks to denim jeans. He has also owned and operated his own businesses including an ice cream parlour, a clothing manufacturer and a consulting practice.
“Working with young entrepreneurs and hearing of their successes is extremely gratifying, comments Smyth. As is working with the other members of the LRC and learning from their knowledge and experiences.”
Jim Smyth will attend the CYBF National Awards Gala on May 24, 2005 at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto. The Outstanding Volunteer recipient will be honoured along with two other volunteer award recipients and ten provincial young entrepreneur Best Business Award recipients.
Ten provincial award recipients will vie for the national Best Business award, which carries a cash prize of $20,000. The announcement will be made live at the annual CYBF Young Entrepreneur Awards Gala on May 24, 2005 at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto.
“For the first time CYBF is showcasing ten provincial Best Business recipients – presenting the true diversity of youth entrepreneurship across Canada, comments CYBF CEO Vivian Woytiuk. As a national organization with our offer available coast-to-coast, it is important for CYBF to acknowledge these businesses and to provide an opportunity for Canadians to see the talent this country can produce with the right focus. We are supporting the next generation of business leaders by helping youth help themselves.”
