Calgary based women wins provincial best business award

Calgary AB April 12, 2005

The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF), Canada’s leading organization dedicated to the success of young entrepreneurs, is pleased to announce the 2005 Alberta Best Business award recipient Ceilidh McClurg of Extend Marketing in Calgary.

Launched in June 2001 with assistance from CYBF, Extend Marketing is a full service marketing and communications firm with a team of professional consultants that provide strategic counsel and implementation on, and creative implementation of a broad spectrum of marketing and communications services

Extend has found a niche in the competitive world of marketing communications by using traditional marketing tactics to provide a turnkey solution to corporate giving and community relations programs. Their largest project to date was “The Battle of the Border” sponsored by EnCana Corporation. This project brought US and Canadian women’s hockey Olympians of past, present and future to communities in which EnCana operates. The event, designed and implemented by Extend Marketing, raised $101,299 in six communities across Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

In the past year the Extend team has moved offices twice to accommodate their growth and will move again on May 1st to a custom-designed space.

“To put it bluntly - My idea could have been one of a million that dissipate and never come to fruition, but CYBF saw the promise and prevented that from happening,” comments Owner Ceilidh McClurg. “Through CYBF, I have had the opportunity to learn from top business people, receive financial support and develop the confidence to grow and compete in today’s business world.”

Ten provincial award recipients will vie for the national Best Business award, which carries a cash prize of $20,000. The announcement will be made live at the annual CYBF Young Entrepreneur Awards Gala on May 24, 2005 at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto.

“For the first time CYBF is showcasing ten provincial Best Business recipients presenting the true diversity of youth entrepreneurship across Canada, comments CYBF CEO Vivian Woytiuk. As a national organization with our offer available coast-to-coast, it is important for CYBF to acknowledge these businesses and to provide an opportunity for Canadians to see the talent this country can produce with the right focus. We are supporting the next generation of business leaders by helping youth help themselves.”
