CYBF Appoints New Board Member and Prominent Senior Management
Toronto ON - September 9, 2004
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) announced today the appointment of Brian Ferguson, Executive VP, Corporate Development, EnCana Corporation to its Board of Directors; and the appointment of Aboriginal activist and producer, John Kim Bell to the position of Vice-President of Development and Aboriginal Programs; and Mahsa Taheri to the position of Vice-President, Programs.
Brian Ferguson graduated with distinction with a degree in Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1980 and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1983. He completed the University of Western Ontario's Executive Management Program in 1993 and worked in an international firm prior to joining the Alberta Energy Company (now EnCana) in 1984. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Charted Accountants and sits on the CICA's Risk Management and Governance Board. Mr. Ferguson is responsible for EnCana's investor relations, acquisitions and divestitures, competitive intelligence, corporate reserve evaluations, and legal and corporate secretarial.
John Kim Bell, Vice-President of Development and Aboriginal Programs became the first Aboriginal to become a symphony conductor and is best known as the founder of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation where he served as President from 1984-2004 and as the Executive Producer of the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards, a CBC annual network telecast. Mr. Bell is an Officer of the Order of Canada and has received numerous recognitions including the Order of Ontario, RBC Award for Canadian Achievement, a Gemini Award, Laureate of Excellence Award from Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, as well as the William Oxley Thompson Alumni Award for Outstanding Career Achievement from the Ohio State University. Mr. Bell was named one of Canada's top young entrepreneurs by Canadian Business Magazine in 1989 and has received five honorary doctorates from Lakehead University, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, Trent University and Mount Allison University, as well as an honorary alumnus award from the University of British Columbia.
Mahsa Taheri, Vice-President, Programs has garnered significant local and international experience in the not-for-profit sector. After graduating with honours from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Ms Taheri earned an MBA from McGill University. Her diverse career includes positions at the Aspen Institute's Initiative for Social Innovation through Business in New York; Street Kids International and Fountain of Hope in Zambia; as well as the United Nations Development Program in Iran. More recently Ms. Taheri served as Director of Community Initiatives at the Toronto Community Foundation.

CYBF is a nationally registered charity founded in 1996 by CIBC and the RBC Foundation to assist young entrepreneurs in starting a business through access to capital, mentoring, and educational resources.
