The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) and Keyin College have established a partnership agreement to offer mentorship, learning resources and business start-up loans to aspiring young entrepreneurs aged 18-34 across Newfoundland through campuses in St.John’s, Marystown, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Clarenville and Carbonear. Potential clients do not have to be enrolled at Keyin College, they will need to be between 18-34 years of age and have a complete business plan. Keyin College will be joining the 44 existing CYBF sites across Canada serving 430 local communities.

An official launch to mark this occasion will take place Thursday November 4th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Holiday Inn in St John’s, 180 Portugal Road. Local VIP’s from the community, including Fabian Manning – MHA for Placentia & St. Mary’s and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education, will speak at the launch.

CYBF Client Mark Gillingham will also speak about his experiences as a young entrepreneur. Gillingham co-founded Cathexis Innovations Inc. in March 2001, a technology company that empowers corporations to rapidly integrate RFID technology into their software or hardware products and their business process. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a wireless tagging technology that allows for the automated tracking and management of assets and inventory. Gillingham was awarded the 2002-03 P.J. Gardiner Award for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and was the recipient of the 2004 ACE – CIBC Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

“Keyin College is very pleased to welcome and partner with CYBF in Newfoundland and Labrador” states Ralph Tucker, Keyin College President. “Our organization works with youth and young adults on a daily basis, which makes our partnership with CYBF truly a natural fit. The opportunity to work with CYBF provides young entrepreneurs in our province the chance to benefit from start-up financing, mentorship, information and learning resources that the CYBF provides. For this reason we are proud to be apart of this initiative”

Keyin College is committed to being the leading post-secondary college by continuing to deliver innovative, industry-directed, quality education in an environment that respects and cares for its customers: that being our students, graduates, industry partners, faculty, and support staff.

“We are proud to officially launch our partnership with Keyin College in Newfoundland,” comments Vivian Woytiuk, CYBF CEO. “We have helped launch over 1000 businesses across Canada since 1996 and will continue to provide access to business start-up loans, mentorship and learning resources to empower aspiring young Canadians entrepreneurs.”

CYBF offers young entrepreneurs start-up financing up to $15,000 with the support of a business mentor. The business mentor increases the likelihood of the entrepreneur’s success through the transfer of experienced business knowledge. Training and support are provided for the mentoring relationship as well as the young entrepreneur’s business.
