Beyond CYBF: Exit Strategy

Your business is now up and running. Everything is happening so fast and you wonder how you'll keep up. You know being busy is a good problem to have, but how can you be more efficient and effective? This stage is designed to help you grow, keep up what you are already doing well and overcome the challenges that you face.

An exit strategy or business succession plan is an important piece of any business plan. Succession planning is a process that prepares you and your business for transition. Whether this transition is planned or sudden, and includes sale, closure or transfer of your business.

  1. Begin discussion with stakeholders:
    • Business partners
    • Spouse
    • Family members*
    • Employees and managers

    *You may wish to hire an outside consultant to interview family members that have a stake in the company.

  2. Establish a starting point:
    • Understand your financial position by assessing both your asset base and your liabilities
